Coronavirus Impacts for Backpackers Update 6
Humanity is continuing to adapt to “the new norm” caused by Coronavirus. Most countries started the reopening process in the past few weeks. Some nations are showing promising results during this process, while others are seeing more cases than ever before. The media likes to talk about only negative news, so there is no point in me touching on that. Instead, I want to share some of the positive things happening in Australia.
Australia has had fewer new cases than in many countries in the world. The biggest reason for this is because of how strict Australia was when the numbers started to increase. Australia has also been slower in the reopening process, as outlined in my last post. A slower process has frustrated a lot of people, but many are excited as the changes happen. The excitement comes from simple activities such as camping on the weekend, grabbing a beer with mates, going to the theater, and listening to a live musician.
Since I live at a hostel, I have been able to see the changes in people, especially backpackers. It feels like every day someone is going out to the beach or a waterfall. I see people getting excited to be able to take a trip out to the reef again. A few days ago, I told a friend about theaters opening, and her reaction was beautiful. I am pretty sure she nearly cried in happiness because she missed the movies so much. It really is the small things these days that make surviving Coronavirus possible.
I have missed the enjoyment of seeing a live musician so much. A couple of days ago, I finally saw one, and it was so amazing. I had no idea who they were, but after so long, it was a magical experience. I also recently went out to a place called Babinda Boulders. The Boulders was the most beautiful place I have seen since before the pandemic started. See for yourself in the below photo.

The small new activities are what life is for backpackers in Australia these days. Many backpackers’ home countries are ravaged by Coronavirus. This means leaving the country is not a good option for most backpackers. Instead, many are starting to find jobs again, which allows them to enjoy more of the little things. The overall mood among backpackers is higher than it has been in months.
Everyone in Australia is still facing challenges, as the media is all too happy to point out, but life is improving. Hopefully, reading this inspires you to find more of the beauty hidden in life right now. I am starting to see signs of it every day and know others can find it as well. Leave me some comments about the beauty you are seeing in your life these days!
